SD Arts Council grant will provide professional services to assist the community in creating a mural on the south side of Ward’s Shopping Center.  Congratulations to Dayle S on the successful application;  ideas and design suggestions are requested — you can mail them to Dayle at PO Box 453 or drop them off at their home.

Watch for more opportunities to participate in generating art and fund raising soon.

I’m interested in the grant application process through the South Dakota Arts Council. Are they just providing professional services to help with the mural or are they also providing monetary assistance?

Last year our Historical Society made posters with old Estelline photographs, advertising our new book. These posters are at the library now. Some of these might inspire some of the student who are planning the mural. I like some of the early photos of farming, the volunteer fire department, school scenes. I’m not sure if they want to create a mural which is entirely historical - but we do have some photos that would help them.

We applied for the grant through the SD Arts Council “Arts in the Communities/School” grant. You choose the artist you prefer to work with, and who is available. The artist usually helps you compose the theme and idea, if you don’t already have one; possibly provides paints and brushes and their expertise and time. To recap, SDAC provides grant money, the artist (length depends on your grant request) and you supply matching funds.
